In Purple Vigilantes (1938), a gang wearing purple hoods impersonates vigilantes, and it takes the Three Mesquiteers (played by Bob Livingston, Ray Corrigan, Max Terhune) to blow their cover. In Prairie Pioneers (1941) the Mesquiteers (portrayed this time by Robert Livingston and series replacements Bob Steele and Rufe Davis) set out on the mission to save a young Roberto Ortega (Robert Kellard) from hanging for a crime he didn't commit. This requires our heroes to take on a gang headed by Carlos Montoya (Davison Clark). To add romance to the feature, Robert Livingston as Stony Brooke, dallies romantically with Roberto's lovely sister Delores (Esther Estrella).
