Reviewer: O.J. Sikes (Leonia, NJ)

Some four years after Rex Allen made the last singing cowboy movie, he traded his bandana for a string tie, vest & jacket and began a TV series called Frontier Doctor. The series was a good one, and had a successful run in syndication on national television in 1958. In 1959, when Rex recorded his Mister Cowboy LP, he included a song titled "Prayer of the Frontier Doctor" because he was so well-known for his role in the show. The song was not performed on the show. It wasn't a musical series, but it was very entertaining. At Rex's suggestion, it was set in Rising Springs, Arizona in the early 1900s. Rex, as Dr. Bill Baxter, usually driving a buggy rather than riding Koko, helped law officers solve mysteries. You'll see lots of familiar Republic Studios scenery and props, and it's a very enjoyable show.
