| More than 13 hours of entertainment are packed into HOLLYWOOD BEAUTIES, a collection of classic and lesser-known films starring such stunning screen legends as Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, Barbara Stanwyck, Cheryl Ladd, and Ava Gardner. Films include HOME TOWN STORY, WHISTLE STOP, IMPERIAL VENUS, RUM RUNNERS, EVIL IN THE DEEP, THE DOLL THAT TOOK THE TOWN, LADY OF BURLESQUE, THE STRANGE WOMAN, and SUNDOWN.
Disc 1:
Home Town Story - Marilyn Monroe (1951):
Jeffrey Lynn stars in HOME TOWN STORY (1951) as a recently defeated state legislature candidate, who takes a job at a newspaper in order to fight powerful and corrupt companies who sabotaged his campaign. Though the movie's acting and story are solid, it's best known today for the alluring presence of a young Marilyn Monroe in a supporting role.
Whistle Stop - Ava Gardner (1946):
A story of love and intrigue in a small railroad town. Kenny is an unemployed loser and always has been, but his old flame Mary can't stop loving him that is, until her head is turned by a local hotel owner. Kenny manages to clean up his act and win Mary back, only to be framed for murder by her jealous suitor.
Imperial Venus - Gina Lollobrigida (1963):
A period costume epic with historical and sociological undertones, IMPERIAL VENUS was filmed in a grand manner meant to appeal to the French and Italian audiences who resented the innovations of the New Wave. Gina Lollobrigida stars in the role of Napoleon's beloved sister, Paolina, the sexy imperial Princess who thirsts for power of her own, and can only obtain it through her affairs with men. Not a great figure in history, Paolina Bonaparte (1780-1825) nonetheless enjoyed a reputation for her legendary beauty and her capricious life. She was celebrated in a statue that cast her as Venus, made by the great Canova (Gianni Santuccio). And she was famous by association, belonging to the family that ruled over Europe in the first decade of the 1800s. That she won as many battles in bed as her brother did on the battlefield overshadows her humanity: she was complex and fragile, enjoying a short but exceptional life. Napoleon (Raymond Pellegrin) loved his sister dearly in an untiring, if not overbearing way. While his career blossomed, she married the young general Leclerc (Massimo Girotti). She shined in the Bonaparte court, was widowed, then married Camillo Borghese (Giulio Bosetti) from whom quickly separated. Reentering France, she accepted new loves and new honors. The Princess was, in life, a representative of both the good and the evil of the First French Empire, as shown in this engaging film.

Disc 2:
Rum Runners - Brigitte Bardot (1971):
In the prohibition years, the 'rumrunners' travel through the Caribbean Sea with the forbidden liquor barely escaping the ship patrols. While on the run, one of the bootleggers falls in love with an actress on a movie set.
Evil In The Deep - Cherly Ladd (1974):
The action takes place off the coast of Jamaica in this diving adventure movie starring the beautiful Cherly Ladd. Considered a precursor to Jaws, this movie features spectacular underwater photography and lots of action!
The Doll That Took The Town - Virna Lisi (1965):
A feigned mugging in the streets of Milan has unforeseen consequences for a young, attention-starved woman when the police nab three suspects. A fable of conscience.

Disc 3:
Lady Of Burlesque - Barbara Stanwyck (1943):
The behind-the-scenes shenanigans of a burlesque show set the stage for this mixture of comedy, music, sex appeal, and murder. While sardonic comedian Biff Brannigan (Michael O’Shea) constantly hits on lead stripper Dixie Daisy (Barbara Stanwyck), she continually rejects his lascivious advances. She, after all, is too busy thinking about her potential stardom. Meanwhile, as the characters who populate Biff and Dixie's workplace reveal ugly competitive streaks, someone is found strangled with a G-string. Then a second victim falls prey to the mysterious killer. Biff and Dixie soon realize that they have only each other to trust in the search for the killer's identity. William Wellman's usual outstanding direction, along with lush production numbers, keeps the whole thing sprightly. The film’s music was justly nominated for an Academy Award for Best Score. The story is based on the novel THE G-STRING MURDERS by Gypsy Rose Lee.
The Strange Woman - Hedy Lamarr (1946):
Beautiful Jenny Hager (Hedy Lamarr) finds she can always get what she wants from the men in the 1820's port of Bangor, Maine. Freed by his death from her drunkard father she soon manoeuvres herself into a position to marry a middle-aged monied local businessman. Though she often uses his money to do good, she continues to consider all other men fair game.
Sundown - Gene Tierney (1941):
A World War II drama about a British force in Africa, standing alone against Nazi and native uprisings. Adapted from the book by Barre Lyndon. SUNDOWN scored three Academy Award Nominations, including Best (Black-and-White) Cinematography, Best Score, and Best Art Direction.
