This collection features 11 early John Wayne westerns from the mid-1930s (when Wayne was in his twenties) as well as ANGEL AND THE BADMAN (1947) and McCLINTOCK! (1963):

HELL TOWN (1937) - A frontier rivalry ensues when young Dare Rudd (John Wayne) becomes attracted to his cousin’s girl. Dare loses the money for the family’s cattle drive in a crooked card game and his jealous cousin hatches a plot to kill him. Featuring Marsha Hunt and John Mack Brown.

TEXAS TERROR (1935) - Sheriff Higgins (John Wayne) believes that he accidentally killed his closest friend while thwarting a robbery, and decides to become an isolated prospector. An unexpected romance with his slain friend’s sister flourishes---until she finds out that he killed her brother. Featuring Lucile Brown and George "Gabby" Hayes.

LAWLESS FRONTIER (1934) - Outlaw Pandro Zanti murdered the parents of John Tobin (John Wayne), and Tobin catches him just as he’s about to kill another man and kidnap a beautiful woman. Zanti slips out of the handcuffs and escapes into the desert, with a desperate Tobin in feverish pursuit. Featuring George "Gabby" Hayes and Yakima Canutt.

RANDY RIDES ALONE (1934) - Wrongly imprisoned for multiple murders, Randy Bowers (John Wayne) gets out of jail with a woman's help. He locates the actual killers’ headquarters behind a waterfall and goes undercover as one of the crooks. Featuring George "Gabby" Hayes and Yakima Canutt.

SAGEBRUSH TRAIL (1933) - Falsely accused of murder, John Brant (John Wayne at age 26) breaks out of jail and heads west, where he joins the gang of the man who actually committed the homicide. Both men become attracted to the same girl and the real killer begins to realize that Brant isn’t a criminal. Featuring Nancy Shubert and Yakima Canutt.

‘NEATH ARIZONA SKIES (1934) - Chris Morrell (John Wayne) helps Native American girl Nina locate her vanished father; she will inherit his oil fields if he can’t be found, unless villainous Sam Black takes them away from her first. Black frames Morrell for a bank robbery, and Morrell must elude the sheriff while he seeks the girl’s father. Featuring Sheila Terry and Yakima Canutt.

WEST OF THE DIVIDE (1934) - Disguised as a fugitive, Ted Hayden (John Wayne) infiltrates the gang of the man who killed his father, saving a rancher’s home and reuniting with a lost brother. Featuring George "Gabby" Hayes and Yakima Canutt.

THE DESERT TRAIL (1935) - John Scott (John Wayne) received his rodeo winnings immediately before someone murdered the paymaster, and he and a gambler go after the actual killers in Poker City. Featuring Mary Kornman and Paul Fix.

BLUE STEEL (1934) - A lawman (John Wayne) learns that a supposed pillar of the community schemes to choke off the other ranchers by sealing out all incoming supplies in order to force them to sell their land. Featuring George "Gabby" Hayes and Yakima Canutt.

THE DAWN RIDER (1935) - Alice nurses John Mason (John Wayne) after he’s been shot in a robbery in which his father was murdered, but John doesn’t realize that it was Alice’s own brother who pulled the trigger. Featuring Marion Burns and Yakima Canutt.

THE LUCKY TEXAN (1934) - Partners Jerry Mason (John Wayne) and Jake Benson (Gabby Hayes) find gold in their mine, but someone shoots Jake and the sheriff blames Jerry for his death. Featuring George "Gabby" Hayes and Yakima Canutt.

ANGEL AND THE BADMAN (1947) - An old-fashioned Western with John Wayne at his best as a gunfighter who must choose between the girl he loves and his guns which always seem to attract trouble. When outlaw Quirt Evans (Wayne) is wounded during a bank robbery, he is taken in by a gentle Quaker family and nursed back to health by their lovely daughter Penelope Worth (Gail Russell). Quirt begins to rethink his violent lifestyle after falling in love with Penelope and being hounded by his rival Laredo Stevens (Bruce Cabot) and a laconic U.S. marshal named Wistful McClintlock (Harry Carey). With its excellent script, quirky characters, and a sweet-natured blend of comedy and action, ANGEL AND THE BADMAN is justly considered one of the best Westerns ever made.

Cast: Bruce Cabot, Gail Russell, Harry Carey, John Wayne
Director: James Edward Grant

McCLINTOCK (1963) - Cattle baron George Washington McLintock fights his wife, his daughter, and political land-grabbers, finally "taming" them all in this Western comedy with Taming of the Shrew overtones.

This was purchased as a gift for my brother. He is a collector of John Wayne things and I knew he would like it. I don't have to see the movies to know they are good. John Wayne never made a bad movie. He was the greatest american that ever lived.
