AMC presents four James Cagney films - See individual descriptions of each film appear below:

Blood on the Sun (1945): James Cagney as Nick Condon, an American newspaper editor working in Japan between World War I and World War II. While investigating the double murder of a fellow reporter and his wife, Condon discovers the insidious Tanaka Plan, which plainly states the Japanese aims of world domination. If he is to warn the world about the Japanese plot, he must stay alive and out of the hands of the secret police with the help of Iris (Sylvia Sidney), a beautiful Chinese-American spy. From his tender scenes with Iris to his action-packed jujitsu fights with the Japanese secret service, Cagney's performance is a masterpiece. Theodore Sparkul’s high-contrast film noir lighting is among the best of the 1940s, as is the quick-paced editing in this critically acclaimed thriller from veteran director and two-time Oscar winner Frank Lloyd (CAVALCADE, MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY).

Cast: James Cagney, Sylvia Sidney

Time of your Life (1948): H.C. Potter supplies heart-tugging direction in the film version of William Saroyan's Pulitzer Prize-winning ensemble piece about the various characters who populate Nick's Saloon, Restaurant and Entertainment Palace, which is actually a waterfront dive. The Saloon is in the toughest section of San Francisco. Enter Joe (James Cagney), a champagne-soaked "philosopher" with a credo that mixes equal parts cherish-the-moment and bottoms-up. Parading around Joe, who showers love on his fellow inhabitants, are a bull-slinging American Indian, a would-be dancer, a prostitute named Kitty (Jeanne Cagney) who dreams of white picket fences and a lawn, and Joe's handyman, Tom (Wayne Morris). These and other colorful people espouse their hopes and fears, right until the barkeeper announces Last Call. The comedy has been heightened in the film but Saroyan's devout love of common folk shines through. Much of the original dialogue from the play remains in the film.

Cast: James Cagney, William Bendix

Great Guy (1936): Department of Weights and Measures Inspector Johnny Cave finds himself in the midst of deceitful government officials when he takes over for his boss, whom the officials have beaten and put in the hospital. Cave quickly acts to turn everyone in, but his corrupt counterparts refuse to go quietly. Soon he exposes the hidden government agenda that has his coworkers bilking the American taxpayers out of several thousand dollars per year by stealing an equally small amount from everybody. Although he's on the right side of the law, he has to rely on more than righteous words when it comes to saving his own neck. The villains manage to frame him on a phony blackmail charge that taints the public's view of Cave. Now he not only has to clean up the bureaucracy around him, but he must clear his own name, too.

Cast: James Cagney, Mae Clarke

Something to Sing About (1937): Love conquers all in this lighthearted musical romp starring the inimitable Jimmy Cagney. Here he plays a happily married New York bandleader whose dreams seem to come true when he hits it big in tinseltown. But then he finds that the studio wants him to pretend that he's single - his female fans prefer it that way! - and he and his wife set about putting on a comic charade that will fool anyone.

Cast: James Cagney, Evelyn Daw, William Frawley
