AFRICA SCREAMS (1949) - Buzz Johnson (Bud Abbott) and Stanley Livingston (Lou Costello) go on an African safari in search of treasure. Buzz is a bookseller who tricks Diana Emerson (Hillary Brooke) into believing that his fellow bookseller Stanley is an expert on Africa. They are thereby abducted by Diana’s henchmen who expect the two self proclaimed hunters to lead her to an African tribe. On the way there they run up against giant apes, lion tamers, and a wild river. Eventually Buzz makes his way back to the States and Stanley lucks into some diamonds and purchases the store where they both used to work. By the end, Stanley hires Buzz to operate the elevator. Charles Barton directs some great gags and funny comedy routines in this lively film. This story contains the much-loved theme of Lou being terrorized by an evil pushy woman who eventually gets so fed up with his ineptitude that she wants him dead. Look for great comic turns by Martin Wilkins as the dreaded Cannibal Chief and Shemp Howard as Gunner.
Cast: Bud Abbott, Lou Costello
Director: Charles Barton
THE FLYING DEUCES (1939) - Stan and Ollie join the Foreign Legion so that Ollie can forget an unhappy romance. As luck would have it, they become involved in attempting to smooth out the messy love affair between an officer and his
fiancée. After being in the Legion for as long as they can take it, they want their normal lives back. Ollie insists on their release just as they realize they're going to be shot at sunrise for their rebelliousness. The pair attempt an escape via airplane. Lots of laughs, nostalgia, and action-packed stunts take place including a dance routine to "Shine on Harvest Moon."
Cast: Oliver Hardy, Stan Laurel
Director: A. Edward Sutherland
Three Stooges - Disorder in the Court (1936): aka "Disorder in the Courtroom" - Larry, Curly, and Moe raise courtroom havoc when they appear as star witnesses at a murder trial.
Three Stooges - Brideless Groom (1947): The Three Stooges fellas help Shemp get married within 24 hours so that he can get a $500,000 inheritance.
Three Stooges - Malice in the Palace (1949): Set in a desert land where the stooges run a restaurant, the boys set out to recover the stolen Rootin Tootin diamond after they learn from the thieves that the Emir of Shmo has absconded with the contraband jewel. They journey to the stronghold of Shmo where they disguise as Santa Clauses and scare the ruler into giving them the diamond.
Three Stooges - Sing a Song of Six Pants (1947): The stooges are tailors, and are heavily in debt to the Skin & Flint finance company. When the boys read about the big reward for a fugitive robber, they think it could be the answer to their problems. The bank robber conveniently ducks into their shop and leaves a suit with a safe combination. After his girl friend fails to retrieve it, the robber returns with gang and a wild fight ensues. The boys miss out on the reward but wind up with the crook's bankroll and can pay their creditors.
