ABOUT THE CD: In 1996, with the encouragement of some friends, Amanda ventured into the jazz genre by creating what she thought would be a modest ‘demo’ CD. She worked along with Bevan Manson to create the original song ‘Maybe’, an alternative to the over-requested “Girl from Ipanema” at functions. Composer, John Kester, thought Amanda’s passion would transcend his song “Just Another Spring’ which was recorded with mostly strings. Surprisingly, the swinging version of WWII anthem “Don’t Sit Under the Apple” (Andrew Sisters) caught the ears of Barry and Eliot of Jordan’s Furniture fame and created the Gap Parody television commercial “Jordan’s Swings”. This parody was so close to the original National Ad that it was forced off the airwaves after 2 months of continuous regional airplay. This first effort was met with surprising popularity as Carr toons made it over seas to Italy where Promoter Sergio Ramella thought Amanda was the perfect Jazz Diva to headline at Euro jazz 98’. Amanda shared the stage with International greats George Mraz and James Moody. Despite a low-key word of mouth campaign, this CD has sold over 4,500 copies! |
