As soon as I heard one song from Robert Wagoner I fell in love with the harmonies of all the classic western songs that he performs with his western group. As mentioned on the CD cover, the songs in this collection are seldom heard. One song, that I don't know the entire history of, "Singin' My Way Home", I first heard on the flip side of "Mule Train" by Vaughn Monroe. With Mule Train being such a monster hit also for Frankie Lane and Gene Autry, I don't remember if this great song made the charts. Wagoner does a fantastic job with this song as well as all of the other songs on this CD and the other CD's that he has recorded. If you enjoy western music, aka Sons of the Pioneers, you'll love Robert Wagoner's western renditions of classic western music.

I can't play it enough. The harmonies ring in my head while walking in the supermarket and even in bed. I thought really beautiful music had disappeared from the world. More more please Bob! Judy from Melbourne Australia

It's always nice to find a great old "lost" western gem, but this CD is a collection of 17 of them! They're all newly recorded by one of today's greatest Western vocalists, Robert Wagoner. In the liner notes, the legendary Tommy Doss writes, "In the years back, the Sons of the Pioneers could have been greatly honored with his talent."
Song selection is superb, as is Wagoner's delivery. He plays all the instruments except for guests Jerry Compton (steel) and Richard Chon (fiddle) on "Call of the Canyon." And he sings all the parts in beautiful harmony.
The CD opens with "My Kind of Country," a great Western song the Jimmy Wakely Trio sang in a Hopalong Cassidy film. He also found a couple of musical nuggets done originally by Vaughn Monroe as well as the rarely heard Foy Willing - Sid Robin composition "Where the Cool Clear Water Spills," which Foy Willing and the Riders of the Purple Sage used to do on their radio show. I don't know of any commercial recording of it. "The Wheel of the Wagon is Broken" and Bob Nolan's "Old Forgotten Trails" are rarities that will please fans who love those old forgotten tunes, and if you've never heard 'em, they'll knock your socks off.
The the melody of title song is from "Shane" and it's masterfully done here. There's much more. A superb album, illustrated with one of Wagoner's gorgeous Western paintings. Highly recommended!
