Very enjoyable doco on what is now an under-appreciated genre of movies. Many of the Saturday morning / afternoon heroes would have remained "just names" had it not been for this DVD. It was great to see some of the earlier "stars" that set the stage for those that came after them and that I had the good fortune to see at matinees from the early fifties onwards. Some of the clips were way too short and it is hoped that follow up docos will offer longer grabs from these long forgotten movies. The doco brought back many happy memories of a time when life was so much simpler and the man in the white hat was King.

"B-Western Heroes of the Silver Screen" on DVD is a loving and reverent look back at the six gun heroes of yesteryear. Produced by Ed Mulhall, with commentary by Bobby Copeland and narration by Bob Pettegrew, this is a rambling nearly two hour nostalgic DVD. Excellent quality, but everyone concerned seemed to need a shot of adrenaline to pep up the proceedings. The best parts are not the parade of stills and film clips, but the historic film tour of Corriganville conducted (in the '50s) by Ray "Crash" Corrigan himself; the film festival panel excerpts with Willie Phelps, Helen Talbot, Rex Allen and especially Royal Dano talking about Gary Cooper; and the interview with Cynthia Brown Hale about her Dad, Johnny Mack Brown. Sincere job fellas, but put more zip in the presentation next time.
